Editorial Policy

This page explains how EverydayNaira chooses topics, researches and sources content, writes and reviews articles, and handles corrections and updates. Transparency about our process is part of how we earn reader trust.

1. Our editorial mission

EverydayNaira publishes practical, human, and solution-based personal finance content for everyday Nigerians. Every page we publish must solve a real user problem, explain clearly, and provide practical next steps. The site is a publisher and educator — not a financial adviser.

We prefer fewer, stronger pages over many weak ones. A topic earns its place in our publishing plan by being genuinely useful, responsibly sourced, and original enough to add something better than what already exists on the subject.

2. How we choose topics

Before any article is written, we apply a topic intake process that asks: who is the reader, what exact problem are they trying to solve, can we support the topic with trustworthy sources, is the risk level manageable for an educational publisher, and will the resulting page be genuinely useful even without advertising revenue?

We approve topics when the user problem is clear, the site fit is obvious, the source path is strong, the practical value is real, the risk is manageable, and the angle is original enough to justify a standalone page.

We reject or postpone topics that are mainly hype, exist to capture monetisable clicks, encourage risky financial behaviour, require fake expertise to sound convincing, or overlap too heavily with content we have already published.

3. How we research and source content

All factual claims on EverydayNaira must be supportable by a credible, identifiable source. Before publishing, we verify key facts, identify when information may change over time, ensure claims are not broader than the evidence supports, and use the most current reliable source available.

For time-sensitive information — charges, interest rates, product terms, regulations — we frame claims carefully and direct readers to official sources for current details. We do not present outdated information as though it is current.

We do not invent statistics, guess at fees, fabricate policy claims, or use AI-generated summaries as a substitute for source verification. Every important factual claim is grounded in a real, traceable source.

4. Source hierarchy

We use a clear source hierarchy for all factual content:

Tier 1 — Primary and official sources (used first)

Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), NIBSS, NDIC, SEC Nigeria, National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), FCCPC, NCC where relevant, official bank and fintech websites, official product terms, fee schedules, help centres, regulatory documents, and official annual reports.

Tier 2 — Strong research and institutional sources

EFInA, World Bank, IMF, audited company reports, verified survey research, recognised development and financial inclusion studies.

Tier 3 — Reputable secondary sources

Respected business publications and major newspapers, used to supplement primary sources for context and recent developments. Never used as the sole support for sensitive factual claims when a primary source is available.

We do not use anonymous blogs, forum posts, unattributed social media content, or SEO aggregator sites as evidence for factual claims.

5. Writing and review standards

Every article on EverydayNaira must be:

  • Original in wording and structure — not reworded or spun from other sources.
  • Specific to a clear reader problem — not a generic overview written to fill a category.
  • Written in the EverydayNaira voice — calm, practical, warm, human, and non-judgmental.
  • Structured to help the reader — with a clear intro, useful subheadings, practical examples, actionable next steps, and a sources section.
  • Free of filler, hollow motivational language, robotic AI-ish phrasing, and unnecessary padding.
  • Inclusive of a disclaimer where the content touches regulated products, advice-adjacent topics, or time-sensitive information.

Before any article is published, it passes a review checklist that confirms the problem is real, the structure is clear, the language sounds human, the claims are supported, internal links are present, and the piece is appropriate for a trust-sensitive finance platform.

6. Handling sensitive finance topics

Finance content can affect real decisions. We apply extra care to debt, loans, regulated products, fraud guidance, savings product comparisons, and any claim that could mislead a reader into a risky decision.

We avoid certainty where it is not justified. We encourage verification with official sources when decisions are significant. We keep all guidance educational and clearly framed as general information rather than personalised advice.

We do not cover highly speculative topics — such as crypto investment recommendations, guaranteed return products, or tax advice presented as definitive — at the current stage of the site's authority and expertise.

7. Corrections policy

If an article contains a factual error, we correct it promptly. We verify corrections against primary sources before making changes. We do not leave known errors in place. We do not silently remove or rewrite sections without acknowledging the correction in the article where appropriate.

If you believe you have found an error in one of our articles, please contact us through our Contact page and include the specific claim you believe is incorrect along with the source you are using. We investigate all credible corrections.

8. Update policy

We review and update content when fees change, regulations change, a source becomes outdated, a product materially changes, a new scam pattern becomes relevant, or reader questions suggest a gap in clarity.

Time-sensitive pages — such as those covering bank charges, transfer fees, or loan product details — are reviewed more frequently than evergreen explainers. When we update a page, we revise the publication date and note what has changed where relevant.

9. Editorial independence and advertising

EverydayNaira may display advertising, including through Google AdSense. Advertising does not influence which topics we cover, how we write about them, what sources we use, or what conclusions we reach. No advertiser pays for editorial coverage, product mentions, or recommendations.

We do not accept payment to write about or recommend specific financial products. We do not publish sponsored content that is not clearly labelled as such. Every page must have standalone educational value regardless of the advertising it carries.

10. Use of AI in content production

We may use AI tools to assist with research organisation, draft structuring, and editorial quality review. AI tools are not used as a substitute for source verification, original writing, or editorial judgment.

All important factual claims must be grounded in real, verifiable sources regardless of what process was used to produce the draft. AI-generated text is reviewed, edited, and held to the same quality, accuracy, and voice standards as all other content on the site.

11. Contact the editorial team

For factual corrections, sourcing questions, topic suggestions, or editorial enquiries, please use the form on our Contact page and select the relevant reason. We read every message and respond to substantive editorial queries.
